Double Sided Fabric Printing

The practice of double sided fabric printing has become increasingly popular in the textile industry market. This technique entails printing on both sides of the fabric, resulting in vibrant colors and an overall delicate appearance. The fabrics that employ this technology are oftentimes mistaken for machine-woven patterns due to the meticulous detail of their effects.

What is Double Sided Fabric Printing?

Double sided fabric printing is the use of spray printing on the front and back of the fabric to achieve the same color and design between the front and back or the same pattern with different colors on both sides and different colors on both sides of the pattern. By special treatment of the fabric, the printing color is full. A software positioning and graphics processing system is used to process the pattern, and then the dye ink is printed, so that the two sides of the printing can be accurately symmetrical.

Suitable Fabrics for Double Sided Printing

The double sided printing is suitable for thicker silk fabrics, including 14/16/18/22 momme silk twill, 14/16/19/22 momme silk satin, 14 momme silk cotton, silk wool and silk cashmere fabrics.

Advantages of Double Sided Fabric Printing

Printing on both sides of fabric is a novel printing and dyeing process that has emerged in recent years and is highly distinctive. This technology not only caters to the disadvantages of conventional digital printing, but also retains its advantages.

The vividness and precision in color of double sided printing fabrics offers designers and manufacturers a wider range of creativity and design. Moreover, aside from just displaying the print, it also helps save water and ink, reducing resource waste.

Differences between Double Sided Fabric Printing and Regular Digital Printing

Conventional digital printing only prints on the front side of the fabric, it has no special requirements for the image, and basically any design can be printed. Double sided printing prints on both sides of the fabric and has special requirements for the design, which should preferably not have geometric patterns or letters.

Both conventional digital printing and double sided fabric printing are richer in color, but digital printing is less accurate, less permeable, less saturated in color and the back of the fabric will appear white. The fabrics printed on both sides have vibrant colors on both sides, which solves the problem of conventional digital printing fabric.

What Kind of Ink do you Use for Double Sided Fabric Printing?

Ink-jet printing inks include two main categories: water-based inks and solvent inks. The ink we use is the first one, which is harmless and environmentally friendly, while solvent inks contain volatile substances in the solvent, which not only pollute the environment but also affect the health of the printing workers.

The equipment for double sided fabric printing.

There are three kinds of equipment for printing on both sides of fabric.

  • The secondary double sided fabric printing machine:

It requires that after printing on the front side of the fabric, it is flipped over and then sprayed again on the reverse side. The fabric is evenly adhered to the guide tape during the front and back printing process, so there are no offsets or distortions. The printing accuracy of this machine is slightly off and the printing steps are more complex, so the skills of the operator are more demanding.

  • Synchronous printing of both sides in the same position:

The printing machine has two sets of nozzles set on either side of the fabric in the vertical running direction and is able to print on both sides of the fabric at the same time. This machine not only allows for accurate pattern alignment on both sides of the fabric, but also saves on ink consumption. At the same time there is no excess ink on the fabric to interpenetrate and it is not easy to produce stray colors.

  • Print both sides simultaneously in different positions:

This expensive device has an upper and lower nozzle that prints the fabric in different positions, and the distance between the two pieces of fabric being printed is about 5 meters. The printed effects are more accurate and the color saturation is higher. However, this equipment is more wasteful in making fabric samples printed on both sides.
